Marketing Strategies Small Businesses Should Exploit
Are You Disappointed In Your Marketing Strategy Results?
Recently we were approached by a small business telling us that their website was not delivering or meeting its potential. They had an SEO company undertaking search engine optimise marketing campaigns for their website and a print media studio designing leaflets but they could not understand why so few people visited their website.
Having traded for a few years, according to their marketing plan, they should be in a position by now to buy a yacht, which would be anchored at their private island where their neighbour - Richard Branson - would hop over for brunch on Monday's. Our first thought was to Google 'patient breakouts from local institutions' but thought better of it in case we spooked the 'very nice lady'.
While this was an extreme case, we are often confronted with similar stories about disappointing marketing strategies and websites underperforming. We have been surprised at how some very simple marketing principles get overlooked. So we want to share some tips to make sure you get your private island.
Tips For Better Marketing Campaigns
1 - Be able to describe who you are and what you do in one simple sentence. Ask a friend or colleague to give you an honest evaluation of your description. Does it give the listener a basic understanding of what you do? If not, make it a priority to work on it. Before someone can respond to your marketing campaigns they must first understand what you're saying.
2 - Use your mission statement as an opening statement for all that you do. Once you've clearly decided what your marketing strategies, goals, targets and tactics are, it should be easy to identify the parts that do not fit.
3 - Give back to your clients and community. There are many great causes and organisations out there that need support so choose a few that can be incorporated into marketing campaigns for mutually beneficial exposure and that will best position you with your target market.
Improve Your Marketing Strategy Now
4 - Remember that inconsistent advertising is wasted money. A prospective customer must be exposed to the same message in the same way numerous times before they are ready to entertain a buying decision. Pick a marketing strategy where you can afford to have an ongoing and consistent presence.
5 - Look for opportunities to establish your business as an expert in its field. Speaking engagements, publication articles and leadership roles can all help label your business as an expert company in your field.
