Is Social Media Marketing On Twitter Still Worthwhile?
How Do You Communicate On Twitter?
Much business marketing is about trying to put together an effective campaign with a message or visuals that will attract the right target market. Social media marketing introduced the possibility of fast, direct targeting to individuals and companies. As the name suggests, social media websites are a place that people can come together to build and maintain friendships, network and ultimately communicate.
Many would be fooled into thinking that this form of social communication would be two-way and for a while it was. People discussed their needs, shared opinions and tried to help if they were experiencing problems. @TochinNet has been part of Tochin's online marketing strategy for a while now and call me a cynic, but I've noticed a change. It seems Twitter has turned into a shouting ground rather than an arena for mutual communication. Maybe it was always like that and I just never noticed but I have met more people and clients by tweeting WITH them rather than perpetually tweeting AT them.
Is Your Social Media Marketing Strategy To Shout?
My crisis of faith happened the other week when I joined a #NetworkingHour group that promised businesses coming together to let their hair down after a hard working week. As a form of networking, I expected lots of business talk but nothing prepared me for the intense 'me, me, me' tweets for the next hour. I had expected something a little more relaxed on a Friday afternoon! I asked questions, commented on others' tweets and not a single person interacted with me.
Social media can seem rather egotistical whether for a business or personal account but ask yourself, would you go to the high street and buy from the shop that just tries to shove their products down your throat or the shop that patiently listens to what you want and makes it happen? From my experience, using social media marketing is the same.
A Better Form Of Social Media Marketing
Break the mould and start interacting again. I would be willing to bet you'll get more website visitors and customers than just trying to shout the loudest. Answer people's questions, compliment their products and services and simply thank new followers for taking an interest. Don't be a sheep that just joined the social media marketing bandwagon but take some time to make new acquaintances and make your social media profiles a valuable part of your online marketing strategy. You can start by saying hello to us at @TochinNet!
