There's No Escaping The Need For Mobile Website Design
Billions Want To See Working Mobile Website Designs And Stores
Businesses with only standard or ecommerce websites, not mobile websites, have received a warning from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations information communication technology specialist. According to the ITU, mobile phone contracts will outnumber people by the end of 2014 (i-Robot anyone?). If you were around to witness the birth of the mobile phone, briefcase and all, it is almost impossible to believe how far it's come to now literally take over the world.
ITU predict that subscriptions will pass seven billion early in 2014. There are currently 6.7 billion mobile subscriptions and 7 billion people. The ITU 'World in 2013' report also found that more than a third of the global population are online. The Commonwealth of Independent States, the alliance of countries formerly in the Soviet Union, has the highest mobile penetration with 1.7 subscriptions for every person. At the opposite end, Africa has the least, with only 63 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants.
Mobile Websites Are Synonymous With Speed And Convenience
"Every day we are moving closer to having almost as many mobile phone subscriptions as people on earth," said Brahima Sanou, director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau. With any new phones on the market now being Internet-enabled, people expect to find whatever they need online, wherever they are. If your website is not mobile compatible, it's time to talk to your web design agency about a mobile website design. People are spoilt by the speed and convenience of everything these days so they won't stick around to find out what a slowly loading or broken website has to offer.
In addition, Brahima Sanou said, "the mobile revolution is 'm-powering' people in developing countries by delivering ICT applications in education, health, government, banking, environment and business." However, in some countries, such as India, mobile growth is slowing. The report also found that 2.7 billion people, almost 40% of the world's population, are online. Europe leads the way with the highest penetration (75%), followed by the Americas (61%), Asia (32%) and Africa (16%).
Mobile Website Design Is The Way Forward
ITU secretary-general Hamadoun Toure said the progress was "extraordinary" but that more needed to be done. "Two-thirds of the world's population, some 4.5 billion people, are still offline. This means that two-thirds of the world's population are still locked out of the world's biggest market."
With the relentless mobile drive, it highlights the importance of having your design agency create a mobile website. You should also discuss mobile optimisation options with them to improve your chances of being found in the mobile search engines. If you do not have plans to upgrade your static or ecommerce website with a mobile website design, it is probably only a matter of time before you begin losing visitors and therefore leads.
