Facebook The Social Media Platform
Facebook is an online social networking service founded in 2004. Facebook initially limited the website's membership to Harvard students, but later expanded it to colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University. It gradually added support for students at various other universities before it opened to high-school students, and eventually to anyone aged 13 and over. Facebook now allows anyone who claims to be at least 13 years old to become a registered user of the website.
Users must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, exchange messages and receive automatic notifications when they update their profile. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organised by workplace, school or college and categorise their friends into lists such as "People From Work" or "Close Friends".
Facebook As A Marketing Tool
Facebook is reported to have over one billion active users making it one of the most popular social media platforms. Through social media management (SMM) you can plan posts and other types of messages to send visitors to your website though links and by generating interest as a means of viral marketing. If the information you share is emotive it could be shared or recommended by hundreds of people in the space of a few minutes.
You have probably also noticed the ‘like' icons many websites now have on their pages. The more clicks these icons get the more popular a search engine deems a website to be so it will be boosted towards the top of relevant search listings.
